Mind Zebra was founded by Holly with a simple goal – to help busy stressed people find balance and be happier in daily life.  If you were stranded on a desert island, what 3 (beauty & wellness) products could you not live without? (You have food and water)
Hmm, I would say I would definitely need sunscreen to protect skin aging and burning. Shampoo without sls has been essential for me to keep my hair and scalp healthy – I can’t stand bad shampoo and unhappy scalp! Also, coconut & argan oil would be necessary to moisturize dry skin and hair from the sun.

What is your morning routine? Evening?
After I wake up, I drink a cup of lemon water and do my meditation for 20 minutes. After that, make green or oolong tea before I start the day.

In the evening I enjoy taking a long bath before I go to bed. It’s a great way to relax, contemplate on the day and totally disconnect myself from everything for the time. Before sleep, I often write a journal entry and drink herbal tea. I practice regular meditation (10 minutes) before bed, it’s the best way to end the day!

What 3 tips or tricks can you share for feeling and looking your best?
Bath – taking a nice long bath makes me feel best. I feel cleaned and look better while I find my calm, feel organized and ready for the next step especially when I’m overwhelmed

Meditation – conscious breathing changed my life – it’s challenging but essential. The habit of conscious breathing makes me feel ALIVE

Exercise – working out or practicing yoga is very rewarding. Afterward, I usually drink a big filling green, heavy smoothie with a lot of fruits and spinach.

What’s your favorite part about running Mindful Zebra?
I have discovered a deeper meaning to natural beauty and wellness: to declare our intentions. Like many people, I enjoy bath and body products. While Mindful Zebra creates products in that space, I’ve never considered it like that. Maybe its just me. Our body and mind can work better together to explore ways of living; Through Mindful Zebra, I have come to believe it’s not our outer existence that determines our reality but our inner thought and patterns of behavior. Through Mindful Zebra, I got to observe and learn the natural beauty and wellness industry’s evolution. Increasingly we acknowledge quality over quantity, and intention over consumption.

What’s a trend in the wellness/beauty industry you’d like to see grow?
I want to see more wellness and beauty focused on individual physical and emotional well-being. It’s great to see to see the growing consensus that beauty is wellness.

What beauty trend would you like to see disappear?
There’s a constant push to name and define beauty. Everything has its own beauty and I don’t like to see the misguided pursuit of some arbitrary model of perfection.

Of the products you make, which is your favorite?
I love all the bath products for different purposes. My go-to bath is Sleep Bath and Beauty Bath. Sleep bath is great for putting me into sleep and easy to use for relaxing my mind. Beauty is a great pampering bath without going to spa to feel beautiful and luxurious because of the aroma and my skin feel very soft afterward.

What sets Mindful Zebra apart from other lines on the market today?
We strive and are dedicated to make all of our products to improve physical & emotional wellbeing both ways so that the emphasis on life is about ourselves rather than others. It’s not selfish thinking because we tend to focus too much on others so that we forget about ourselves.

We all know healthy beauty starts with what we put in our bodies. What 3 tips can you share about beauty from the inside out? (think superfoods, supplements, teas, elixirs and the like)
I had some illness in the past and so I pursue a strictly healthy routine
1. No soda – I drink water (with lemon) at least 2L.
2. Limited caffeine – I enjoy more herbal teas – drinking herbal tea is more than just drinking tea.
3. Green juice and nutritious smoothie. It’s so simple, quick, and easy to make. For juice, go to farmer’s market on weekend and pick up fresh vegetables that look good and put it into the juicer! Or if you are lazy, just get a nice pressed juice outside. It’s better than getting an alcohol! For smoothie, I add ingredients including plant based protein powder, maca powder, macha powder, hemp seed, etc to boost my energy :)

What do you do to stay active and why?
I workout and practice yoga regularly. It makes me energized and feel great!

Do you have a favorite beauty boosting meal you’d like to share a recipe for?
I love a big filling smoothie to replace a meal. It includes banana + almond milk + spinach + berries + almond butter + chia seeds + hemp seeds + plant based protein powder + maca powder.

Do you have a hero? If so, who and why?
I can’t think of anyone but my husband. He’s a living hero close to me. I get inspired by his unlimited passion and good intentions towards his work and people. :) Also, I am his hero and that makes him my hero as well! 

What’s the hardest or most important life lesson you’ve learned?
Don’t force the answer.
If you can’t answer now, it can wait.
I have often asked big questions, like:
“What do I want to do in this life?”
“What makes life more meaningful?”
I have felt an urgency to have good answers… to live a better life. This has sometimes caused me to hesitate to move forward.
But I have learned that some answers just can not be forced. The lesson I learned here is keep moving forward and focus on learning whatever in front of you. Sometimes you connect dots later on, when it’s right time. :)

Any beauty / wellness myths you’d like to bust?
Having no time for ourselves – We all can make time for anything if we find it important enough. Beauty and wellness is not optional but is essential. It’s not luxury anymore. It’s not about just making ourselves ‘pretty’ but taking time and taking care of ourselves. This is important enough for anyone and worthy of effort and time… a little everyday.
