We are so excited to offer you a glimpse into Co-Founders Garik Mkrtumyan’s & Ovsanna Mkrtumyan’s brand vision and lifestyle. Here you go!

1.  If you were stranded on a desert island, what 3 (beauty & wellness) products could you not live without?  (Beyond food and water…)

I can’t imagine not having my Gingko Pumpkin Firming Cream. This is my moisturizer, eye, day and night cream all in one. This was the first formulation of my husband, founder of Zatik. It smells and feels edible yet it’s very effective. A small amount goes a long way. When I apply a small amount on my face, eye and neck area I can taste the pumpkin oil, and feel the hydration and firming effect. My must have number two is my Dragon’s Blood Cleansing Gel. This gentle cleanser not only  helps to cleanse pores from impurities but also assists with evening out skin tone. I use this to cleanse and feel refreshed by leaving it on my skin for a 1-3 minutes. Unlike other cleansers this has so much minerals and hydration that one must leave it on to get the most out of this cleanser. I cannot replace this refreshing feeling with another cleanser. My third essential to have is our Black Cumin Seed Oil internal supplement. This supplement is a must have for almost anything. It supports immunity, respiratory, digestion, and also can be applied topically for hydration and firming. This oil comes from the seeds grown in Egypt. The Egyptian seed has been known to contain higher levels of thymoquinone. This oil contains great amount of antioxidants.

2.  What is your morning beauty routine? evening?
Step1: I love to cleanse my skin in the morning not because I have much to clean but our cleansers have so much extracts that when left on the skin for 1 to 5 min it allows my skin to let go of impurities and at the same time feed minerals back. I use a damp wash cloth to remove the cleanser.  My skin feels refreshed and clean as if I had just gotten a facial yet very hydrated so that I don’t have the feeling to run to a moisturizer.

Step 2:  Our Organic Chamomile Hydrating Toner is a must to have. This is not a mixture of water and alcohol. This is a blend of hydrosols, essential oils, dry herbs, flowers and extracts. We let the entire blend sit for 24 to 48 hours, then we filter out the dry herbs, flowers and use the remaining for hydration and relaxation. This product helps to close pores after cleansing and provide hydration, especially for those of us who have dry and mature skin. You can use at nights to break the habit of using any oils or creams prior to going bed to boost up the immunity of your skin while your skin relaxes and more oxygen is absorbed while sleeping. It can also be used as the setting mist after mineral make up is applied. This toner can be kept in a purse to be used throughout the day for hydration and relaxation. It is a unique blend and I love to call it a facial tonic mist.

3.  What 3 tips or tricks can you share for feeling and looking your best?
The first and most important for feeling and looking best is to make sure to break away from bad eating habits. Eating more green or colorful veggies on daily basis and staying hydrated is important for skin health. It is true you can have a beautiful skin by watching what you eat. Your skin is a mirror reflection of your inner health. I do agree that stress and depression can add a lot to a skin health. With exercises, like yoga, that help you control breathing (which helps to relax your mind and body) you can add to feeling your best. It is all about harmonizing your mind, body and spirit to allow you to walk into the beauty world.

4.  What’s your favorite part about running Zatik Beauty Essentials?
I love how I meet different people who teach me new things on regular basis. I have been with Zatik for 8 years and I can look back and see how each person I met during my marketing, networking and at stores while cleaning up the shelves helped me connect the dots about life, health, and how I want to contribute to this world. It is a journey that I cannot replace with anything. It is not just a skin care company it is an avenue to stay away from being in a box and being more connected to nature.

5. What’s a trend in the beauty industry you’d like to see grow?
I would love to see beauty companies offering more and more cleaner products. We need to educate the market with true information rather via fear factor. One thing I don’t like is that marketing these days have to fear people into getting them to buy something. The trend is moving towards DIY (Do It Yourself). This offers people precipices to make their own products at home. I love this concept and understand that nothing will be cleaner or fresher than the product you make in the comfort of your own home. We are gearing up for this new trend and soon will offer an option that people can make their own creams, toners, cleansers, masks, hair care at home.

6.  What beauty trend would you like to see disappear?
I would like to see the products that are filled with chemicals & synthetics ingredients be removed and to shift towards cleaner formulas. We already see the shift happening, but it will help if more mass brands start shifting. This way there will be a cleaner and simple products at affordable prices and a chemical free formula for all.

7. Of the products you make, which is your favorite?
I love and adore our Gingko Pumpkin Organic Firming Tightening cream. This is the product that my husband formulated first (and made me fall in love with) to convince me to help him run Zatik 8 years ago. Since then, although the formula changed many times due to certifying it organic,  the affects of firming and tightening still amaze me. I am 36 years old and have used this cream since I was 27. I can say I still love the elasticity of my skin. I cannot replace the hydration I can get from this cream with any other product. The pumpkin oil is the best for hydration and firming.

8. What sets Zatik apart from other lines on the market today?
We are a mission driven company. Our mission is to support those companies that are local to us when we purchase raw materials. We utilizing as many local businesses to work with instead of outsourcing or purchasing outside of USA. We want to keep the money flowing to our local farms, vendors and printing companies so that we help our community grow. We also stay connected with education to assure our formulas are always updated to contain the best ingredients coming from the local farms. We also make our own extracts by buying the dry herbs and flowers. Since we formulate using 80% of our own made ingredients we offer affordable prices for our high quality products. (Our products will change color and odor if air and light are exposed to the product. We usually offer people who do not like to see these changes take place keep their products in refrigerator.) We are also a company who gives back. We work with the Fruits of Love Mission by giving back a portion of our profit so they can travel the world and help those in need. We want to be an example company for others to follow.

9. We all know healthy beauty starts with what we put in our bodies.  What 3 tips can you share about beauty from the inside out?
Skin is the mirror reflection of your inner health. What you put inside your body will directly affect your skin. Here are three things that I have proven helping skin looking revitalized, glowing and healthy:

   1. Green Leafy vegetables on daily basis (portion each meal that 60-70% of the plate is raw food and the rest is cooked)

   2. Eating Avocados and drinking enough water will add hydration to your skin!

   3. Use Black Cumin seed oil. This is something new I discovered. We use cumin in our cooking everyday but learning about the oil amazed us. It supports digestive health. If we have issues with digestion it negatively impacts our skin. This oil also supports immunity, if you have lower immunity it also negatively impacts skin health. Taking the oil internally or applying topically can support clearing up acne, improve skin tone, elasticity and help dry skin.

10.  What do you do to stay active and why?
I have three kids between ages 4 and 12. It is hard to dedicate time for myself between school, work and their after-school activities. I always loved walking.  I didn’t like working out in a fitness centers as they seem grey to me. I love walking and hearing the birds. This is natural relaxation to me. Also, all your nerve endings are located under your feet. As you walk, your nerves are massaged and blood circulates. This process helps you relax, digest well, loose calories and stay fit. After all the kids activities are done we all go out for a walk. Some kids bring their bikes and some just walk. We fast walk or run which becomes our exercise and time together. I also use the night time when I put the kids to bed. I lay on the floor of my 4-year-old’s room. As she passes out, I do my yoga which relaxes me before bed and I have a fresher restart in the morning. We also use the time during their activities to run or walk. This way we stay active and don’t necessarily take time away from the kids as family is very important for us.

11. Serious stuff. Which ingredients do you avoid at all costs?
Dye, Artificial Fragrance, Phthalates and Parabens.  We have found ways to replace these ingredients using nature. We do understand that giving up these can give a shorter shelf life to our products and also our products will discolor through exposure of light and air. However, it is important for us to offer products that use organic and naturally derived ingredients vs. chemicals. This is simply our mission. We strive everyday to make small batches so that we offer fresh products at all times. This is where we see our value. When customers buy our products they can feel the energy from the fresh botanicals in our glass bottles.
