Since 2010, The Seaweed Bath Co. has been devoted to transforming the skin and hair care ritual by providing nutrient-rich, performance-optimized personal care formulas that offer visible results, as well a unique ocean-inspired sensory experience that instills a sense of well-being. This is achieved by harnessing the powerful benefits of The Seaweed Bath Co.’s hero ingredient: bladderwrack seaweed. Allison + Adam are the duo that started this beautiful company and we had the honor of interviewing them and getting to know a bit more about them, their company and their favorite rituals! Enjoy.
If you were stranded on a desert island, what 3 (beauty & wellness) products could you not live without? (You have food and water) (Allison)
- A strong SPF lotion
- Our Citrus Vanilla Hydrating Body Wash as an all-purpose soap
- A good moisturizer, like our Marine Night Therapy
What is your morning beauty routine? evening? (Allison)
With 2 young kids, my morning and evening beauty routines are as quick and simple as possible. In the morning, I alternate between our Gel Cleanser and Micro-Scrub and then follow it up with our Serum and Day Cream. I usually put on under eye concealer, eye liner, eye shadow and mascara, and then I’m out the door. At night, I use our Gel Cleanser, which cleanses my skin and takes off my makeup, followed by our Marine Serum and Restoring Marine Night Therapy. Once or twice a week, I use our Firm + Lift Treatment Mask while I’m in the bath before applying the Serum or Night Therapy.
What 3 tips or tricks can you share for feeling and looking your best? (Allison)
- Making sure to get a good night’s rest (this doesn’t happen as much as I would like, but I always aspire to get more beauty sleep)
- Taking time for myself. For me, it’s a 30-minute warm bath to wind down from the day with our Hydrating Seaweed Bath or Body Wash (which makes a great a bubble bath).
- Spending quality time with my husband and kids always rejuvenates and re-energizes me
What’s your favorite part about running Seaweed Bath Co.? (Adam)
Building the team and watching them thrive as our business grows.
What’s a trend in the beauty industry you’d like to see grow? (Adam)
Transparency about ingredients.
What beauty trend would you like to see disappear? (Allison)
All of the rainbow ones (laughing) – overdone, bright colors for hair and makeup. What happened to less is more?
Of the products you make, which is your favorite? (Adam)
Our new Marine Serum is my favorite product we make.
What sets Seaweed Bath Co. apart from other lines on the market today? (Adam)
We are on the forefront of science-backed research into the benefits of seaweed for skin wellness. There are so many species of seaweed (over 25,000 worldwide), and we are constantly working to find the most powerful, effective species to use in our ocean-inspired products.
We all know healthy beauty starts with what we put in our bodies. What 3 tips can you share about beauty from the inside out? (think superfoods, supplements, teas, elixirs and the like) (Allison)
- Stay hydrated. I always start my day with hot tea or coffee, and drink water consistently throughout the day.
- A balanced diet is key. Every meal involves a lean protein and plenty of vegetables.
- Be in tune with your body and listen to your cravings. My body tells me when I need certain things, like calcium or iron, and I modify my diet accordingly.
Serious stuff. Which ingredients do you avoid at all costs? (Allison)
Parabens and dyes. There are so many amazing products available now that are free of these ingredients, so it’s easy to make healthier choices when it comes to personal care.
What do you do to stay active and why? (Adam)
I am currently focused on swimming and biking as I prep for a triathlon in the spring. I have found that endurance training and racing is very much the same mentality as starting a business. It is persistence and strong self-belief that are the keys to success in business and I find that mentality in triathletes that I meet. I like the endurance aspect of it and the camaraderie of the other competitors. It is a very supportive group.
Do you have a favorite beauty boosting meal you’d like to share a recipe for? (Allison)
Our favorite beauty-boosting meal is one of the simplest: oven baked salmon. I usually buy the Atlantic Salmon from Whole Foods Market, sprinkle with the seasoning of choice (Baron’s Savoury Secrets are my favorites) and lemon, and then bake in the oven at 350 degrees until just cooked through. Then I broil it for 1-2 minutes to get crispy on top. It’s so easy, so quick and cleanup is a snap.
Not including your own brand, what are 3 of your must have beauty /wellness products? (Adam)
- MegaFood multi-vitamins
- TheraNeem Cinnamon Mouth Wash
- Goddess Garden Kids Sport Sunblock spray for the whole family
Do you have a hero? If so, who and why? (Adam)
In the consumer products industry, I have a lot of heroes who have paved the way for natural ingredients and cleaner wellness products.
What’s the hardest or most important life lesson you’ve learned? (Adam)
In order to be successful, you must be open and flexible to new ideas and ways of doing things.
Any beauty/wellness myth’s you’d like to bust? (Adam)
Myth: you can’t detoxify your skin. Our skin faces challenges for toxins and environmental stressors every day, which can build up and cause premature aging. Ingredients, like seaweed, help to purify, repair and protect the skin’s surface.
