Jamie Morea is the co-founder of Hyperbiotics. After healing from the parasite Entamoeba Histolytica she became empowered with the knowledge of the role of the microbiome in regard to our overall health and well-being. A paradigm shift occurred as she began to understand the importance of gut health and that everything – from our diets high in processed foods to chlorine in our water, antibiotics in our livestock and even not being breastfed as a child – can leave us severely deficient in one of the most important aspects of immunity: probiotics.
Armed with research and invigorated with possibilities, the concept that bacteria is both the foundation and the future of health ignited her quest to formulate a better probiotic. With that, Hyperbiotics was born. Learn more about this incredible woman and company!
Serious stuff. Which ingredients do you avoid at all costs?
Oh man, I am a label reading snob! And the reason is that what we put in and on our bodies directly impacts our gut health and our overall health. In fact, the composition of your gut bacteria can shift in as little as a week, based on the foods you eat. Depending on your daily choices, food can either be the most powerful form of medicine or the slowest form of poison.
That said, I look out for anything artificial—obviously colors, preservatives, pesticides, and chemicals—but I also do my best to avoid GMOs, the possibility of antibiotics or hormones (especially in meats, fish and dairy products), gluten, emulsifiers, and sugars. When it comes to sweet treats, I try to make sure our family eats foods with natural sweeteners like honey, agave, maple syrup, dates, and even bananas.
The junk that has snuck into our foods (even the so-called healthy ones) is maddening to me and requires commitment and vigilance to successfully avoid. We try to shop on the outside aisles of the supermarket where the items with the shortest shelf life are and to eat whole foods, closest to their natural state. We typically eat a diet high in vegetables, fruits, protein, and fat—but the good ones like coconut oil, egg yolk, nuts, seeds, and avocado—and fairly low in grains.
We’re also a little superfood obsessed at our house—from spirulina to nutritional yeast, hemp seeds, chia, bee pollen, acacia, turmeric, acerola, matcha, acai, and collagen protein, you name it, we’ve got it! We start off each morning with a warm lemon and sea salt water and then a green smoothie that I swear could send you to the moon!
What 3 tips or tricks can you share for feeling and looking your best?
In the last 10 years, scientists have discovered a world under the microscope that is changing the way we view health and wellness: it’s called the microbiome, and it’s so vital to our bodily function that it is often referred to as the “final identified human organ.”
We’re now learning that we can both look and feel our best by nurturing the good bacteria that live in and on our bodies.
Here are my top 3 tips for taking care of ourselves and living in harmony with your microbes:
- Realize the power of your diet and choose health-forward foods that nourish your body (and soul).
- Replenish your system with probiotics on a daily basis.
- Avoid unnatural products in your home, on your skin, and in your food.
What’s your favorite part about running Hyperbiotics?
Victor Hugo famously said, “All the forces in the world are not so powerful as an idea whose time has come.”
It is my belief that the importance of microbial health is an idea whose time has finally come. Some predict the antibiotic era—going strong for nearly a century—is coming to a close now that we’re beginning to experience the repercussions of antibiotic overuse and misuse. In fact, the more we study and learn about the human microbiome, the more we understand that the future of medicine is less about killing bacteria with antibiotics, and more about nurturing our gut and supporting our health with probiotics.
At Hyperbiotics, we are confident that this emerging research has us on the cusp of greater health and vitality. We already know that probiotics affect every aspect of our health and well-being—our sleep, memory, emotional state, immune function, digestion, nutrient absorption, hormones, and metabolism—and we’re learning more every day as we pave a path for others to follow.
We’re also learning that the way forward is backward—that we need to undo many of our modern lifestyle habits—and that the future of medicine is tending to our microbial garden.
Of the products you make, which is your favorite?
The formula that I simply cannot live without—that I still take with me when we go away for the weekend with nothing but a carry on—is Hyperbiotics Immune. When it comes to maintaining daily wellness, there is simply nothing else like it.
What sets Hyperbiotics apart from other lines on the market today?
Simply put, our probiotic supplements are more effective than others. They deliver superior results because they meet these four criteria:
- Survival on the shelf: we use a patented manufacturing process that ensures the organisms are viable without refrigeration.
- Survival past stomach acid: with a patented controlled-release delivery, 15x more of the flora in our tablets survive the harshness of stomach acids as compared to standard capsules.
- The right strains: We only use human resident strains as opposed to soil based organisms or active yeasts.
- A variety of strains: Our flagship formula, PRO-15, has 15 different beneficial probiotic strains.
